More than 100 million men are estimated to be suffering from some form of erectile dysfunction (ED). Fortunately, there are many options for those who have problems achieving or maintaining a decent erection.

Since an erection requires more blood flow to the penis and restricted blood flow out of it, the following methods are based on this principle:

Penis Rings/Straps

If you have no problem achieving an erection but have trouble maintaining it, using a constriction device made of metal, leather, rubber, or silicone can help. Some urologists can provide you with a custom-fitted device. Optimal blood flow and skin integrity are the main concerns with using penis rings or cock rings. A proper fit is needed to ensure enough blood flow and avoid bruising the penis and damaging the erectile tissue. A water-based lubricant should also be used to avoid skin breakdown when applying and removing the ring. It’s important to stop using the ring after 30 minutes or less to prevent permanent damage.

Penis Pumps

Vacuum male enhancement devices or penis pumps work by drawing blood into the penis using reverse pressure. A cylinder is placed over the penis and a manual or battery-powered pump is used to suction the air out of it. While the pressure is slowly reduced, the penis expands well beyond its normal size. Using penis pumps a few minutes before intercourse can help improve erection quality.

Penis Injection Therapy

This involves delivering medication directly into the shaft of the penis using a small syringe. While this method greatly improves erection quality, side effects include bruising, scarring at the injection site, and priapism – an erection that lasts for several hours.

Penis Implants

Surgical implantation should be your last resort because it permanently alters the erectile tissue in your penis and carry higher risks than the other methods. This procedure involves inserting semi-rigid rods or inflatable tubes in the shaft of the penis.

ED Drugs

There are only four erectile dysfunction drugs approved by the FDA: Viagra, Cialis, Levitra, and Staxyn. These prescription medications work by inhibiting an enzyme which prevents you from having an erection. However, they won’t work in the absence of desire and are fraught with side effects, which include vision impairment.

Male Enhancement Supplements

Considered as safer alternatives to ED drugs, male enhancement supplements contain powerful aphrodisiac herbs and nutrients that help naturally increase the flow of blood to your penis. But aside from helping you achieve and maintain strong erections, male enhancement supplements support your overall sexual health by boosting stamina, heightening orgasms, improving sperm quality, and increasing libido.
